| Recall Notice October 2, 2003 EZ Loader Custom Boat Trailers Customer Custom Frames Customer TI Trailers Customer Dear Customer, This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. EZ Loader Boat Trailers, Inc. has decided that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists in 2001 Custom Frames Blazer, custom Frames Sprint, Custom Frames Triton and TI Trailers Champion trailers. The mono-leaf based suspension system mounting hardware may loosen, allowing spring to flex at the apex of its radius, and at a point where there is a mounting index hole. This flexing may lead to premature failure of the spring allowing the trailer to sag on one or both sides, resulting in the tires rubbing against the fender and misalignment of the wheels. Your trailer may be subject to this recall. To determine if your trailer is subject to this recall, two determinations need to be made. First, you need to determine if the Custom Frames or TI Division of EZ Loader manufactured your trailer. To determine this, identify the VIN code of your trailer. The VIN code is the 17 digit code beginning with the number 1 followed by two (2) alpha characters, followed by 14 mixed alpha-numeric characters. If your trailer was manufactured by Custom frames, and therefore potentially subject to this recall, this VIN code will begin with the characters 1DH or IL. If the VIN code begins with any other characters, your trailer was not manufactured by Custom Frames or TI and is not subject to this recall. If Custom Frames or TI manufactured your trailer, you then need to determine if the suspension system contains the component subject to failure. The component subject to premature failure is the mono-leaf spring. To determine if your trailer has a mono-leaf spring, visually examine the spring. This is most easily done with the boat off of the trailer. If you cannot take the boat off of the trailer, you can see the springs by looking behind or in front of the tires. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU LAY UNDER THE TRAILER TO PERFORM THIS INSPECTION. As the drawing below shows, a mono-leaf spring has only one spring leaf running from spring shackle to spring shackle, while a multi-leaf spring has a group of springs, nested together. Please consult the drawing below to help you determine your spring configuration. If you have any questions as to what spring configurations your trailer has, you may consult your dealer. If yours is a Custom Frames or TI manufactured trailer and has mono-leaf springs, your trailer is subject to this recall. If your trailer is subject to this recall, please contact the nearest dealer or contact the Warranty Department at EZ Loaders Custom Trailers facility at (800)-553-7855 x239 or customwarranty@ezloader.com for assistance. This repair will consist of replacing the mono-leaf spring with a multi-leaf unit and replacing the mounting hardware for the axle to spring connection. The repair will be made at no cost to you. It is strongly recommended that you use your trailer as little as possible until the repairs are completed. In the event it is necessary for you to use your trailer prior to having it repaired, examine the trailer regularly for evidence of suspension failure. The most obvious indication of failure is the trailer sagging on one or both sides, tires rubbing the fenders or an obvious misalignment of the wheel and axle combination. If any of these conditions are observed do not continue to use the trailer. Have it trucked to the nearest repair facility immediately. If you have previously had the repairs related to this recall made to your trailer and that trailer would have been subject to this recall, EZ Loader will reimburse you for your cost of having those repairs made. Please submit documentation, including repair invoices and proof of payment for the cost of those repairs to: EZ Loader Custom Boat Trailers, Inc. Attn: Warranty Department P.O.
