General Questions

Why should I buy an EZ Loader custom trailer?

For over 50 years EZ Loader has been the industry leader making quality boat trailers. All EZ Loader trailers are NMMA and Trailer Manufacturers Assn. certified. EZ Loader trailers are designed to make loading and launching easier. It is very important that we fit trailers to boats. Not only must the trailer be long enough and wide enough, but also must be able to carry the weight of the boat and everything the boat carries. We have a large dealer network across the US, Canada and the world, making service available almost everywhere. EZ Loader Custom Boat Trailers only makes boat trailers and we totally believe in our product which we stand behind.

Can I buy trailers directly from the factory?

No, we sell only to registered marine dealers who set their pricing. EZ Loader Customs feels that your dealer is best suited to know what EZ Loader Trailer will best "fit" your boat.

Do I need a bunk or roller model for my boat?

There are two basic types of support systems on EZ Loader Custom trailers, bunks or rollers. Bunk style systems have long support bunks, usually made of wood or aluminum, with a carpet surface. Roller systems generally have multiple sets of rollers to support the hull. Bunk trailers operate best on steep ramps where your able to submerge the trailer deep enough to partially float the boat off and on the trailer. Roller trailers will function well on either shallow or steep ramps and will allow you to launch and load without putting the trailer in the water as deep as on a bunk style trailer. Some boat manufacturers specify which support system to use with their boats.

How is GVWR different from capacity?

We consider capacity how much the trailer will carry with fuel, gear, etc. GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) refers to the total combined weight of the boat, with its gear, etc. and the trailer. An example would be, a boat weighs 3100 lbs. and the trailer 1,100 lbs., our GVWR would be 4,200 lbs. Some trailer manufacturers list the GVWR rather than the carrying capacity in their literature, often giving the retail customer the wrong impression of how much actual load the trailer will carry. We have chosen to list the carrying capacity as the main specification for choosing a trailer. This way the customer only needs to know how much the wet weigh (boat weight fully loaded with fuel, gear, etc.) of the boat is when choosing a trailer.

Which is better, a painted or galvanized trailer?

If you are a saltwater boater, galvanized trailers will give you the longest service. If you are a freshwater boater, either will work. Keep in mind that even in freshwater, there are brackish conditions, road salt and other elements that will attack your trailers painted finish. Periodic washing and waxing will prolong the life of painted products.

Where do I find the serial/vin number?

On the front of the trailer, on either the inside or outside of the left side rail, you will find the serial tag with this number. If you cannot read the tag, there is a five-digit number stamped into the trailer. This can be found on the intersection of the rails at the tongue of the trailer. On the older TI models, this will be welded on the underside of the left rear of the frame.

I don't have a serial/vin number, can I order parts anyway?

Yes, however, EZ Loader Custom Boat Trailers CANNOT be responsible for parts that do not fit if a serial/vin number is not given at time of the order.

I am traveling to Canada with my EZ Loader trailer, how do I get a compliance letter so that I can enter Canada?

We will need your name, 17 digit VIN number, phone number, fax number and an e-mail address. You can fax this request to 870-481-5264 attn: C. Beard or e-mail cbeard@ezloader.com.

How do I order parts?

We give you several ways to order parts for an EZ Loader trailer. The first thing to determine is whether the trailer was made by EZ Loader and what type of trailer it is (either Custom or Adjustable). An EZ Loader trailer VIN # is as follows: a Custom trailer's VIN # begins with IL8 and IDH; an Adjustable trailer's VIN # begins with IZE or 4WS. If the trailer is a Custom trailer, you have the option of our e-store, e-mail, or telephoning (870-481-5138 x 254). If the trailer is an Adjustable trailer, you have the option of their e-store, e-mail, or telephoning (509-489-5729).

Have your trailer VIN # available when ordering.

Are parts still available for my older EZ Loader trailer?

There are many parts which are still available from the EZ Loader parts department for older trailer models. See the contact information listed in the prior question. EZ Loader Custom Boat Trailers CANNOT be responsible for items that do not fit other brands of trailers, or not purchased from EZ Loader.

Can I use load anti-sway (load equalizers) bars on my EZ Loader custom trailer that has brakes?

Yes and No. If you have "hydraulic surge" brakes, the brakes work when you slow down and the momentum of the trailer tries to catch up with you which "surges" the trailer forward, activating the hydraulic plunger in the actuator. This compresses the brake fluid and activates the brakes. Most anti-sway bars or load equalizer bars attach from the towing vehicle to the frame or the trailer and prevent the trailer from surging forward, and therefore prevent the brakes from working. There are a few companies now making an anti-sway bar that is made specifically to work with hydraulic surge brakes. This is the only acceptable ones that you can use and still have your trailer brakes work. If you have electric cab controlled brakes, there shouldn't be a problem using anti-sway bars as the trailer does not have an actuator or hydraulics.

What do I do if I have a warranty issue on a tire?

Tires are warranted from the tire manufacturer. If your tires are Goodyear, contact your local Goodyear Dealer. If you do not know who that is call 1-800-GOODYEAR. If further assistance is needed, contact the Goodyear Assistance Center at 1-800-321-2136. If the tire is a Carlisle call 800-352-0075.

Can I convert my bunk EZ Loader trailer to a roller style?

With few exceptions, yes. There are a few models that would be very difficult to convert, but the majority of the models are easily converted. Try calling our parts dept. at 800-553-7855 x 254 or e-mail customparts@ezloader.com and request a schematic of your model in a roller style. This will help you isolate the parts you will need to purchase, as well as help identify parts that may be interchangeable in the conversion.

My boat keeps loading crooked. What can I do to fix that?

1. If your boat is heavier on one side due to side gas tanks, large batteries, etc. this causes the boat to load crooked. Try shifting weight in the boat to even the load out.

2. The trailer is not adjusted properly. When standing behind your trailer, the left side of the trailer should be a mirror image of the right side. Get a tape measure and measure bunk or roller placement. If they are not identical, this can "feed" your boat off to one side.

3. Strakes on the bottom of your hull can interfere, or catch on the rollers or bunks as you load. Have an EZ Loader dealer re-align your bunk or roller system.

4. On a roller trailer, you may be putting the trailer to deep into the water. Doing this does not give the self-centering rollers a chance to do their job. By the time they begin to center your boat, the boat is already at the winchstand and cannot go any further forward. Try not backing the trailer as deep into the water.

How do I stop my trailer from fishtailing?

Fishtailing is generally a result of too little tongue weight. Your tongue weight should be between 5-10% of the combined weight of the boat and trailer. If your boat and trailer weigh, as an example, 4000 lbs., you could have between 200-400 lbs. Of tongue weight. Be sure your hitch and towing vehicle can stand the added tongue weight.

What does being NMMA mean?

The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) is an organization of members from the marine industry. The NMMA's certification is an assurance that the product meets their stringent guidelines and qualifications. This certification also is your assurance that EZ Loader Custom Boat Trailers meet all safety standards for every component on our trailers.
